Engineering Design & Sales (E.D.S) shipped its final production
orders this week bringing our 33 year manufacturing operation
to a close. E.D.S. manufactured battery chargers and power supplies
for the medical and industrial industries and like most electronic
manufacturing, the industry has moved almost entirely overseas.
E.D.S.' orderly closure has accommodated clients demands since
February and allowed clients adequate time to plan a transition
to a new source of product. The manufacturing facility is being
prepared for sale or lease.
E.D.S. was started in the basement of Roy
G. and Joan F. Gignac's home in July 1976. The company later
moved into a facility in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, where
numerous expansions occurred as the business continued to grow.
In 1989, E.D.S.' continued growth required a further expansion
into the present facility in Danville's Airside Industrial Park.
Over the course of the last 33 years, E.D.S. has served 2601 different
companies located in virtually every state throughout the country
and manufactured over 10,000 unique designs. While E.D.S. has
been referred to as the "Small Volume Specialist", the
company has shipped well over 20,000,000 products.
